Vanja Malloy has joined the Syracuse University Art Galleries in upstate New York as its director and chief curator. She takes the reins at the museum from Domenic Iacono, who had held the same position for 40 years.

Malloy joins the museum following her time as curator of American art at Amherst College’s Mead Art Museum. Prior to that, she had been a curatorial fellow in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s modern and contemporary art department.

In a statement, she said, “I believe that the campus art museum has a unique ability to show how the arts can contribute to teaching and learning across disciplines at the university. I’m excited to work with museum staff to spearhead new projects that form partnerships throughout the Syracuse University campus.”

The Syracuse University Art Galleries are a part of the Coalition of Museum and Art Centers (CMAC). In a statement, the coalition’s executive director, Jeffrey Hoone, said of Malloy’s appointment, “Vanja stood out with her great educational credentials and experience. She has an exhibition record that displays a creative mind and an ability to connect many different collaborative partners.”
