Gagosian gallery has named Kelly Huang director of its San Francisco location, where she will lead the gallery alongside Charlie Spalding. For the past decade, Huang has worked at the San Francisco–based art advisory firm Zlot Buell + Associates, where she worked closely with a range of collectors, including some based in the Bay Area.
“It’s a small community,” Huang said of the San Francisco art world. “I’m really excited to continue working with the clients I worked with at Zlot Buell. It’s definitely a different role, being on a different side of things, but I’m looking forward to serving [Bay Area collectors] just as well as I served them before.”
Prior to working at Zlot Buell, Huang had been a curatorial assistant at the Renaissance Society in Chicago and a columnist for an online publication run by Art21. She also cofounded Artadia’s San Francisco Council and started the San Jose Museum of Art’s Contemporary Curator’s Circle.
The news comes following two developments that Gagosian announced earlier this month—that the gallery is launching an advisory firm headed up by Laura Paulson and that it is expanding its presence in Los Angeles.
