Salon 94 has secured a 14,000-square-foot building on Manhattan’s Upper East Side to serve as the gallery’s headquarters, with exhibition space, viewing rooms, and offices for Salon 94 and Salon 94 Design.
Currently, the gallery operates three spaces in New York, one on the Upper East Side and two on the Lower East Side. The newly acquired building at 3 East 89th Street, near the Guggenheim Museum, is a few blocks south of the other location in the neighborhood, on 94th Street.
“My plan is to consolidate our program,” the gallery’s founder Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn said.
The building was commissioned in 1913 by Archer Milton Huntington as a residence; it was designed by architect Ogden Codman. Huntington and his wife, Anna Hyatt, donated it to the National Academy in 1940.
