Los Angeles–based artist Lari Pittman is now represented by Lehmann Maupin, which has spaces in New York, Hong Kong, and Seoul. The artist was formerly showed with Gladstone Gallery, and he will continue to be represented by Los Angeles’s Regen Projects. The gallery will have its first Pittman presentation this May at the Frieze New York art fair, and has planned his first solo show at the gallery for March 2020.
Pittman is known for both his early works that grappled with the racial tensions and LGBTQ+ issues from the 1990s, as well as his more recent canvases, which often features abstract patterns layered on top of one another. This September, Pittman will have a solo exhibition at the Hammer Museum in L.A.
In a release, David Maupin, one of the gallery’s founders, said, “Lari has developed a wholly unique mode of painting and mark-making that is in perfect company with artists in our program. Pittman’s embrace of pattern and design through a socio-political lens makes him stand out as a significant painter.”
