Joachim Homann has been tapped as the new curator of drawings for the Harvard Art Museums, beginning August 19. He joins the museums following his time as curator at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, which holds one of the oldest collections of European drawings in the U.S. Homann’s appointment marks his return to Harvard, where he was a graduate curatorial fellow at Harvard’s Busch-Reisinger Museum from 2001 to 2003.

Martha Tedeschi, the Harvard Art Museums’ director, said in a release, “Joachim prospered after completing his fellowship here, and his subsequent contributions to the field have been both broad and deep. We are thrilled to have him join our curatorial team at a very exciting time for the study of drawings at Harvard.”

Homann will oversee a drawing collection that was recently expanded by a gift of more than 300 Dutch, Flemish, and Netherlandish drawings from collector George S. Abrams. Homann added, “I am greatly looking forward to mining Harvard’s exceptional collection of drawings with students and faculty and to engaging public audiences, to explore together the ongoing relevance of drawing as an artistic and intellectual pursuit.”
