Following star turns at the most recent editions of the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh and the Venice Biennale, artist Alex Da Corte is heading to the Wexner Center for the Arts at Ohio State University in Columbus.
The Wexner released its list of 2019–20 artist residencies today, and tapped Alex Da Corte for one in its visual arts department. He will create a new work for a Wexner exhibition scheduled for the summer of 2020, which will be curated by Lucy I. Zimmerman. The artist, whose work often draws inspiration from pop-culture iconography, will conduct research at the university’s Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum in advance of the show.
Residencies were also awarded to 20 filmmakers and the musician and songwriter Sharon Udoh. The recipients are chosen by Wexner director Johanna Burton and Center curators. Overall, the award provides more than $200,000 to the chosen artists, and gives them access to the Wexner’s professional and technical resources.
