Emilio Ybarra Churruca, expresidente del BBV y excopresidente de BBVA, ha fallecido en Madrid a causa de un derrame cerebral, informaron a Europa Press en fuentes conocedoras del deceso.<\/p>\n
Ybarra presidi\u00f3 desde el 19 de enero de 1990, gracias a un laudo del Banco de Espa\u00f1a, el BBV tras la fusi\u00f3n de los dos bancos con sede en Bilbao.<\/p>\n
En octubre de 1999 y hasta el 15 de diciembre de 2001, copresidi\u00f3 junto a Francisco Gonz\u00e1lez, el BBVA, fruto de la fusi\u00f3n de la entidad con el banco p\u00fablico Argentaria.<\/p>\n
Su salida del banco se produjo tras un expediente del Banco de Espa\u00f1a por las cuentas secretas de Jersey, para\u00edso fiscal donde algunos consejeros de BBV radicaron sus fondos pensiones con cargo a fondos extracontables del banco. La Audiencia Nacional le conden\u00f3 a seis meses de c\u00e1rcel por apropiaci\u00f3n indebida.<\/p>\n
Nacido en San Sebasti\u00e1n el 9 de noviembre de 1936, era licenciado en Derecho y en Ciencias Econ\u00f3micas por las Universidades de Valladolid y Deusto.<\/p>\n
Su primera incursi\u00f3n en el sector bancario la realiz\u00f3 en 1964 en el Banco de Bilbao, donde de manera inmediata fue nombrado subdirector de la oficina de Bilbao.<\/p>\n
En el banco desfil\u00f3 por distintos cargos, desde el Servicio de Organizaci\u00f3n y Personal, al puesto de subdirector general, para ser designado en 1971 consejero de la entidad y consejero delegado de la Corporaci\u00f3n Industrial Bancobao y en 1986 vicepresidente del banco.<\/p>\n
Tras la muerte del copresidente del ya fusionado BBV, Pedro Toledo, en 1988 rechaz\u00f3 su acceso a la presidencia honor\u00edfica del BBV en mitad de una crisis por la sucesi\u00f3n de Toledo.<\/p>\n
Dos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, en 1990 pasar\u00eda a ocupar la presidencia de la entidad con el consenso de los consejeros de ambas facciones.<\/p>\n
En su trayectoria afront\u00f3 reveses como la cesi\u00f3n a Banesto de parte de la c\u00fapula directiva en 1993 tras la intervenci\u00f3n del Banco de Espa\u00f1a, que le oblig\u00f3 a remodelar la ejecutiva, momento en el que impuls\u00f3 a su consejero delegado, Pedro Luis Uriarte.<\/p>\n
Ybarra supo congeniar el negocio puro bancario con la tenencia de una potente cartera industrial, dando entrada al capital de empresas de primera linea espa\u00f1olas como Telef\u00f3nica, Iberdola y Repsol-YPF.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
